The end of the shuttle program will be an adjustment, officials said, but will ultimately enable NASA to direct its resources toward building a new spaceship and rocket to take people beyond low-Earth orbit to an asteroid and Mars.
NASA has decided to build a so-called Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle for deep space exploration based on the Orion capsule, which was initially developed for moon-bound trips under the now-cancelled Constellation program. The agency is still mulling potential designs for a huge, heavy-lift rocket to carry the crew vehicle. The decision for that rocket is expected to be unveiled later this summer. Soon, the agency hopes commercial American spaceships will be ready to take over the job.

In addition, you can stretch or compress an entire paragraph to make it fit and look the way that you want it to. Selecting Expanded or Condensed alters the spacing between all selected letters by the same amount. Kerning alters the spacing between particular pairs of letters - in some cases reducing and in other cases expanding the space depending upon the letters. In the Spacing box, click Expanded or Condensedand then specify how much space you want in the By box.
Kerning refers to the way spacing between two specific characters is adjusted.
The idea is to give a better looking result by reducing the spacing between characters that fit together nicely such as "A" and "V" and increasing the spacing between characters that don't. Select the Kerning for fonts check box, and then enter the point size in the Points and above box.
When you scale the text, you change the shapes of the characters by percentages. You can scale text by stretching it or by compressing it. To increase or decrease the amount of vertical space between lines of text within a paragraph, the best method is to modify the style the paragraph uses. Find the style you're using in the Styles gallery on the Home tab. Near the center of the dialog box you'll find the line spacing buttons that let you select single, 1. Choose the spacing you want to apply and click OK.
If you'd like to apply more specific line spacing to the style, clickthe Format button at the bottom left corner of the Modify Style dialog box and select Paragraph.
The Line spacing drop-down lets you select or set more specific line spacing. For more information on modifying styles in Word, see: Customize styles in Word. To ensure safety, individual communities in the United States regulate certain aspects of construction.
Most regulations come from the International Residential Code, although local building authorities often add additional restrictions for their specific communities. Install railings on any deck that is 30 inches or more from the surrounding surface and on at least one side of a stairway leading to the deck. The top of the handrail should be at least 34 inches but not more than 38 inches high. The same height rules apply to stairs, and the inspector measures the handrail height from nose of the stair tread.
Some large decorative handrails are permissible, as long as their design offers a finger recess that allows secure grasping. Balusters, the vertical guards that support the handrail, must be installed close enough that the space between them is no greater than 4 inches. Most city inspectors carry a 4-inch ball with them to test the spacing.
Installed balusters should withstand 50 lbs. The structural integrity of the railing depends heavily on the posts that support the rail structure. Your local building department might require closer post spacing for added rail strength.
Local codes might also dictate the method you use to attach the posts to the deck, such as using certain types of bolts or screws. When the rail is complete, the top of the rail should withstand pounds of pressure from any direction. Some balusters connect to the decking, while others connect to a bottom rail. Like baluster spacing, this code is necessary for child safety. Glenda Taylor is a contractor and a full-time writer specializing in construction writing.

Microsoft Support. If you need spacing between top-level bullets, make sure that these have spacing before instead of spacing after.
Then you would get no undesired spacing above level 2 bullets. Also, look at the line spacing for each style, to make sure it isn't larger than you want. Did this solve your problem? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. In cases such as this one, I find that spacing before is more useful as suggested in my previous post.
For what it's worth, spacing before is my preferred choice for adding paragraph spacing in Word. I have never noticed any problems with this approach. If you remember which problem you encountered, I'd definitely be interested in learning more about it.
Indeed, several principles may collide here I agree that there should be more spacing above a heading than below it. But the spacing between a heading and the first body text paragraph below it doesn't have to be the same as the spacing between successive body text paragraphs.
It may take som fiddling, but I still find this approach more easy when dealing with blockqoutes and numbered lists.
You've lost me. I thought you wrote in a previous message that you wanted spacing before each top-level bullet? If you only want it before some of them, applying spacing before as direct formatting would of course be easier.

Microsoft Support. Hi everyone. See the gap in Footnote ? There does not appear to be any Tab Space or White space, yet, there is that 'vacant space'.
Any ideas what is causing this and how to get rid of it? PS: This may be the first of many difficulties I might be posting here looking for help as I've to submit my research paper and some examiners are finicky about the formatting, sometimes even more than the content! Did this solve your problem? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help.
Thanks for your feedback. Besides, I tried to Left Align the footnote text and this new weirdness surfaced.
The issue here is that the URL in the footnote is nonbreaking, which is forcing it to the next line, causing large gaps in the first line. Word by default inserts a space after the footnote number.
I usually remove this. Doing so would reduce the space after the footnote number but would still leave you will unsightly large spaces in the first line. The solution is to break the URL; it's usually advised that you break it before a slash so that the second line begins with a slash to make it clear that the URL is one "word.
Don't use a hyphen. You can insert as many of these as you like, and the URL will break at the last possible one.
If the URL is a hyperlink, this will not affect its operation because you are not changing the underlying target, just the display text. I meant the space between the footnote number and the footnote text, when justified Thanks for the suggestions guys but they did not work.
The only thing that came close was using a 1pt Condensed Character Spacing October 6, Due to high volumes, response times in the community may be delayed over the next few days.
